Cyril, head of the egyptian christian church, gives his sermon at Sunday mass, and orders the Roman governer to kneel before the word of God. The ex-pagan and newly convert governer tries to plead hopelessly to the christian mob regarding his true faith. Unconvinced, the mob stones the symbol and the representative of the ailing Roman empire. Later, the same mob drags Hippatia through the streets of Alexandria to her doom.
